Mrs. Schmitt’s 5 Red ELA Class Expectations
Welcome to WBO! It’s going to be a great year in fifth grade and our class! The following information will help us know and follow the expectations that will make this a successful year.
Be Prepared!
Each day you will bring:
-take home folder, pencils, headphones, planner, and a silent reading book
Your ELA binder and the class reading book will stay in the classroom.
At the Beginning of Class
Our school expectations were reviewed during “boot camp” and can be found in the handbook. WBO has a policy of two verbal warnings before a warning referral is given. There will be two warnings if a student is being disruptive or disrespectful with comments or actions before giving a warning referral. If more severe behavior occurs a stronger consequence may be given instantly.
Homework
Your responsibility EACH night is to read. Whether you are reading the assigned chapters online of our chapter books in class or/and your own chapter book, you are to read 25-30 minutes every night. If you can’t get that done at home, I always am available during lunch for you to read in our room. You may also use that time during lunch to get caught up on in-class assignments.
Leaving the Room
Your bathroom breaks and drinks from the water fountain should be done during passing period or first thing once you’ve come into the room. If it’s necessary during class, please wait till I’m not talking/teaching to ask. Sign out by the door before leaving.
Substitutes/Other Adults
Whether we have a visitor in the room for five minutes or the whole day, you are to follow the same expectations as you do for me. I always want to be proud of who you are and how you act!
Parents and Students
If you have any questions or need help, please reach out to me. We are working together and want the same goals.

At the Beginning of Class
- Come in the room quietly and prepared to learn
- Put your ELA binder on your desk
- If you need to use the bathroom or get a drink of water, this is the time to do it
- Check the targets, morning slide, and homework board
- Write your assignment in your planner
- Get started on your bellwork right away
- Check the red hanging file for papers that you missed
- Come to me with any questions to help you understand the assignment
- When completed, turn in the work to my desk
- Be respectful! That includes to anyone, including yourself
- Be responsible! Be prepared, on time, and ready to learn
- Be peaceful! It’s okay to talk if I am not talking, but at a low level so you don’t disturb others, as long as you are still doing your work
